I chose Windows 8 becuase of the speed.

Windows 7. Huge improvement over Vista and XP. It has all the features I need and more. Windows 8 reeks of tablet, so I wouldn't touch it at all.

You can downgrade to windows 7 PRO for free

Windos Java Developer high Bit which is still in development, the snapshots of it looked smooth, and quite cool.

I'd have to go with Windows 7, too

Vista is easy, but Windows 7 is easier
