Hey guys,

If you're reading this, it means that you've run into some problems loading the webclient or the downloadable client or something server-related. I've tried my best to make an acceptable guide on how to fix the issues. Please do the guide in order, no skipping and if all the steps are done properly and your issue isn't resolved, please post back here and I'll try my best to assist you. Let's start:

1) Delete the Rune2006 cache.

a. To do this, click on the "Start button" or "Start" if you're on Windows XP.
b. Click on "Documents".
c. Then go to the left-hand side and click on "Computer".
d. Click on your "Local Disk" drive, normally labeled as the "C-drive".
e. Then select "Users". Follow by selecting your Administrator name, so whatever comes up on the top-right side when you click the "Start button" or "Start" (on XP).
f. Once in here, you should see a folder named "Rune2006v2", right-click on it and select "Delete" from the drop-down box that appears.

Try loading the web-client again. If it works, then stop here, if not, move onto the next step.

2) Download the downloadable client, it's no different from the web-client and is more convenient. You can just double-click the .JAR file and it'll load up the game client without ever having to go to the website. The official download was removed but there's a link to an alternate client in this thread:

http://rune2006.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2268

Again, if this works - Great! If not, then move on down:

3) Flush your DNS. Most computers cache the hostname of the websites you've visited to make reloading the pages faster. If the IP of the website changes before the cache is complete, you may not be able to load the site and it's content. There's an easy and quick fix:

Windows 7: Click the Start button. > Type in "cmd" in the Search box. > Right-click the program that appears and select "Run as Administrator", the Command Prompt should now appear. > Type this in EXACTLY:

ipconfig /flushdns

Windows XP: Click on the "Start" button, then click "Run". > Enter "cmd" into the Run field and press "ENTER". > Then type this in EXACTLY:

ipconfig /flushdns

There's a space between "ipconfig" and "/flushdns". Once done, press the "ENTER" key. It should say "Windows IP Configuration successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache".
If this works, great! If not, move on:

4) Try downloading a VPN (a Virtual Private Network), used within businesses to make collaboration on projects easier but also used to hide your IP Address etc. A VPN, if used correctly will mask your IP so that people, websites, whoever doesn't see your real one and instead sees the one that the VPN has supplied you with. This server has DDoS mitigation to protect it from offending IPs which may try to bring the website down by loading it with fake traffic to bog it down and eat it's bandwidth (thereby shutting down the server). Sometimes, even normal IPs get blacklisted and the DDoS firewall blocks them. This is called a "False positive", meaning no issues, yet the firewall is over-reacting. Only Maarten can white-list the IPs, so until he does, you may need to use the VPN. So, the ones that I've seen recommended for this server are:

Spotflux: http://www.spotflux.com
Hotspot Shield: http://www.hotspotshield.com/‎

Please use Spotflux FIRST! It's the one that Maarten has recommended before trying other VPNs. Just download and install.

If all goes well, you're connected to their VPN network service. Just try to load the webclient or the downloadable client (link above) again. Hopefully it'll work.

That's all guys, hope this guide helped you in some way. Sorry for making it so long but in order to minimize questions and maximize helping people understand why the game wasn't working the way they wanted it to, I tried to be as thorough as possible. If this helped, I'd really appreciate a comment below. If this doesn't work, please by all means go and leave me a comment on how to improve. If something I've said isn't right or you feel differently, please leave a comment and I'll get back to it and correct any mistakes I have.

I'm really looking for feedback. Thanks for reading. Peace

Suspect you have a virus? Check this out!

Hello fellow Rune2006 players,

Recently, there's been a lot of viruses and other malicious software travelling around the internet. Since I know a bit about the way these applications work, I thought I might make a guide to make sure (and clean up, if necessary) any malicious software that you may have on your computer.

Please note that this guide is only useful for users of the Windows Platform and the following versions are supported: XP, Vista, 7, and 8.

DISCLAIMER: This guide is not 100% fool-proof and just because you follow this guide doesn't mean that you'll always be virus-free. This guide will help you get rid of most (if not all) viruses and other malware, but nothing is perfect. Just wanted to let you know before we began.

So lets get started:

First you'll need a program called "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware", COMPLETELY FREE, easy to use, NO TRIALS.

PLEASE NOTE: Malwarebytes is NOT an anti-virus program, its a scanner. This means that it will NOT protect your computer from viruses, it'll only remove them when you run it. As such, you should always have an ACTIVE anti-virus on your computer at all times.

Some good PAID ones are:

Kaspersky
ESET
Emsisoft Anti-Malware (my favorite from the PAID category)

Some good FREE ones are:
avast! (my favorite from the FREE category)
AVG
Avira Free Anti-virus

You may download it from malwarebytes.org, the official website. Click on "Free Download" and then if it redirects you to "download.cnet.com", that's fine, just click on the big GREEN "FREE DOWNLOAD". IGNORE any ads you may see, they're not affiliated with Malwarebytes.

Please don't access any other website to download, as they may give you infected (malicious software riddled) version(s).

Once installed, it should look something like this:

The first thing you want to do is go to the "Update" tab and click on "Check for updates":

Please don't interrupt the update process, usually only takes a few seconds. Once done, go back to the "Scanner" tab and select either "Quick scan" or "Full scan":

A Quick scan can normally take anywhere from 2-10 minutes, depending on the size of your computer's hard-drive (the larger it is, the longer it'll take). A Full scan varies, depending on your computer as well. Its never taken more than 1 1/2 hour on my computer though.

Once the scan has completed, it'll pop-up a notepad note, which you can IGNORE. What we're really interested in is this:

Hopefully your computer isn't infected, but if it is, please look at this:

-----

I'd recommend that you scan your computer at least ONCE A WEEK to ensure a malware-free existence.

-----

Thank you for reading my guide. I really hope it helped you in some way and if it did, please let me know

Have a great day guys, surf the internet safely.

Possibly infected by a RAT (Remote Access Tool)? - Read!

I decided to post you guys a 'lil guide about Remote Access Tools.
The guide also tells you a manualistic way to check whether your computer is infected by a RAT, or not;

"What is a Remote Access Tool (RAT)?"
Remote Access Tool, makes its host able to control its victim's computer, remotely.

"What can this "hacker" do with the RAT?
He can;
- Listen to your voice through your computer's microphone
- Control your files
- See you through your web-cam
- Much more!

"How can I detect whether my computer is infected by a RAT or not?"

1) Checking through processes;
* Press Ctrl + Alt + Del ->
* Open the task manager
* Open the processes tab
* Check through the processes, and see if there's any suspicious processes running (from an unknown manufacturer - Be aware that most of the processes are important, and that you may have two processes with the same name running, such as Winlogon. [<- In that case you are infected by a RAT.]
{Known possible dangerous processes; SVCHost, Windows, Winlogon.}
[This shows you if a RAT is currently running on your system!]
* After researching, and confirming that the process is dangerous, end it [In 2-processes-running -case, it's pretty much 50-50 which one you end.], by right clicking the process -> End process
The process is now ended!

2) Checking startup programs;
* Open your Windows menu
* Run "msconfig" with the search bar
* Open the Startup tab on the msconfig window
* Search for any suspicious/unwanted programs
(There is also a tick-box to disable any Microsoft services of showing up on your search!)
[All of these programs are executed upon your Windows starts itself!]
* If you have found an unwanted program, simply untick it to un-activate it
* After confirming that changes are made, simply restart your computer
[Now the chosen program(s) won't start up on the Windows startup, congratulations! ]

3) Useful extras;
- Scan your computer with multiple virus-scanning programs, such as;
* Malwarebytes
* Spybot ~ Search & Destroy
* Avast! or any other anti-virus (If your computer doesn't have an anti-virus installed, you're screwed.)
* Any other program with the possibility of scanning
- Disabling your internet-connection would be wise, when dealing with these kinds of viruses

(REMEMBER, THAT THERE IS MORE ADVANCED, MALICIOUS PROGRAMS, THAT MIGHT NOT BE DETECTABLE AS EASILY, AND MAY EVEN BE HIDDEN FROM THE PROCESS-LIST!)

EDIT: "Also, you can check your regedit.exe > hkey_local_machine_software_microsoft_windows_currentversion_run and
hkey_current_user_software_microsoft_windows_currentversion_run for programs that run on startup.
Useful tutorial though.
FUD (fully undetectable) rats and crypted rats can be harder or impossible to detect and can be removed only by restoring your factory settings."
3) Useful extras;
- Scan your computer with multiple virus-scanning programs, such as;
* Malwarebytes
* Spybot ~ Search & Destroy
* Avast! or any other anti-virus (If your computer doesn't have an anti-virus installed, you're screwed.)

Hey Rune2006!

I knew this, before any of you knew, i played many 2006 remakes and they all had this and i learned from them. So don't say i was told by someone, because i was but it was on another server couple weeks ago. I wasn't planning on releasing this, since you guys don't deserve it. I was the first one to knew this 20 seconds after i logged on the server.So i will stop being mean, and here you go! Pretty self explanatory as i teach you how to do it. Don't forget to go to Ninja Turtles!
